Courses offered

Courses are International Sail and Power Association (ISPA) certified.


Basic Sail Training

Participants acquire skills in sail handling, sailboat, inboard engine management, chart use, basic navigation, obtaining and interpreting weather forecasts, and tide and current calculations. On successful completion of the basic course, participants will be able to sail confidently and safely in local waters by day in moderate weather conditions. The course is an ideal introduction to sailing and creates a sound base for further development if required.

Courses consist of a minimum 12 hours of training, normally divided into two six hour sessions on successive days, including an introduction to the supporting knowledge mentioned above.

Basic Sail Training: $250.00 + GST


Capable Crew

(20 hours classroom or home study, 3 days on water practical)

When registered, the holder is certified as being capable to crew aboard a sailing vessel in tidal waters, and in an emergency is capable to substitute as skipper. Is certified as capable to sail a vessel under 30 feet, where no navigational hazards exist, within 5 miles of safe harbour, during daylight hours, in light to moderate windcondtions.

Capable Crew: $405.35 + GST

Day Skipper Flotilla Sail

(20 hours classroom or home study, 3 days on water practical)

When registered, the holder is certified to act as the skipper of a live aboard sailing vessel, to be responsible for the safety of his/her vessel and crew, while sailing in familiar waters within 10 miles of safe harbour, during daylight, in moderate wind and sea conditions using basic navigational skills. (Day Skipper Flotilla Sail plus Coastal Navigation is generally recognized as the minimum requirement to charter a larger vessel for daysailing).

International Certificate of Competency
ISPA Capable Crew Basic/Sail

Certified to live aboard a sailing vessel in tidal waters as Capable Crew. In an emergency, be able to substitute as skipper. Competent to sail a vessel under 30 ft, where no navigational hazards exist, within 5 miles of safe harbor, during daylight hours only, in light to moderate wind conditions.
